200_Special04 September 2011: Equity Weekly provides participatory democracy in the media through the discussion of the issues and ideas that affect everyday Cambodians. The programme enables Cambodian citizens to engage with their community and with the government. This is citizen journalism - it brings the principle of equity to citizen concerns in society.

Over the last 5 years, Equity Weekly has produced 200 shows and almost 1000 features. This week, Equity Weekly introduces some of the challenges we face in producing programmes every week. Due to a lack of spokespeople in many ministries and government departments, responses for interviews are sometimes late, especially when the relevant people have to wait for approval from senior officials. Sometimes the Government and opposition political parties complain that their interviews have been cut short. To give viewers a better idea about how the show is made, this week Equity Weekly gives an inside view on the process of producing stories and conforming to standards of professional journalism.

Equity Weekly is on air 4 times a week: Sunday at 8pm and rebroadcast on Monday at 01pm, Friday at 3pm and on the satellite on Wednesday at 1am. Past shows are also available on the programme’s website. We would like to express our gratitude to citizens, political parties, civil servants, civil society and local authorities for their valuable cooperation and time.
