27 May 2012: Our commentary of the week will discuss a campaign to eliminate plastic bags by 2015. This campaign is an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with commune authorities and civil society. This campaign is aimed at keeping the city clean and attractive for residents and tourists.

 

29 April 2012: For our teaser of the week, one of Cambodia’s most active environmentalists has passed away. Chut Wutty who was 46 years old, died of a gunshot wound on Thursday afternoon during an alleged altercation with military police in Koh Kong province. He was a prominent figure who draw media attention to the fight against illegal logging in Cambodia.

 

In this week’s Politics and Society segment the Ministry of the Environment warns construction companies about the dangers of using materials containing asbestos, a toxic mineral commonly used in construction. The prolonged inhalation of asbestos fibers can cause serious illnesses, including malignant lung cancer.
