06 May 2012: In Cambodia, oil and gas are not only available at sea but also onshore. Onshore oil has been identified in Phnom Penh, Tonle Sap lake and its surrounding provinces. According to the government, so far only 3 companies have received licenses to do exploration of onshore oil and gas. Some people seem happy about the potential economic benefits but many others worry about losing their homes and farmlands. Environmentalists are also concerned about the impact of this type of oil extraction in nearby ancient temples and the environment as a whole.
