Sand dredging in Svay Rieng (Feature)

Recently Vietnamese boats have been illegally sand dredging in four communes of Romeas Hek district, Svay Rieng province. These sand dredging activities have caused farmland of people to collapse in many places. In order to protect their farmland and livelihoods, people have complained to NGO and local authorities many times, and demanded a stop to the dredging. We look at the response to the complaints and ask how relevant authorities could solve the problem.

Preventing the import of spoiled products (Main Story)

Although authorities have often cracked down on the import of spoiled products such as chicken wings and meat balls from Thailand, these goods continue to reach Cambodia. We examine what kinds of spoiled products threaten consumers’ health, as well as the impact on the Cambodian economy. We also ask what actions need to be taken by relevant authorities to eliminate these products in order to protect people’s health and legal businesses.
