Sea festival (Feature)
Approximately 50,000 international and local tourists recently enjoyed Cambodia’s first Sea Festival which encourages tourists to visit Cambodian coastal areas rich in biodiversity, including islands and beautiful white sand beaches. The festival also promotes the preservation of beach environments with the slogan “Clean city, clean resort and good service”. We look at the steps that need to be taken by the relevant institutions to help manage waste and to keep the beaches clean.
Saving for change (Main Story)
Many people who have taken part in the program called Saving for Change say they are happy with their improved livelihoods and the fact that they can borrow money from their saving groups at a low interest rate. According to one expert, the group savings program provides many benefits to the community, especially the poor. The Saving for Change program has been implemented in Cambodia since 2005 by Oxfam America in cooperation with SCW and RACHA. Currently, the program has 75,000 members in savings groups. We look in more detail at the activities the program and what support is required from the community as well as from the government for it to be sustainable.
Politics and society
Equity Weekly this week presents the launch of the Loy9 program which is produced by BBC Media Action with support from the United Nations Development Programme. The purpose of the program is to encourage Cambodian young people to get involved in the development of their communities.
